Update on our current activities

First we like to welcome our new families to our community. The children have settled in well after the holidays and we have heard some great stories from the children.

We have been focusing on their Personal Social and Emotional Development. We learned to manage emotions, develop a positive sense off self, set themselves simple goals ie. put their own coat, shoes, mittens/gloves on (you can practise these at home too) , building confidence in their own abilities (give them plenty of time and encouragement). Through adult modelling and guidance, they started to learn how to look after their bodies, including healthy eating, and encourage to manage personal needs independently. Through supported interaction with other children they were encouraged to learn how to make good friendships, using kind words, co-operate and resolve conflicts peacefully. These attributes will provide a secure platform from which children can achieve at school and in later life. Our last two weeks have been math focused, building to count confidently and develop a deep understanding of the numbers to 10, the relationships between them and the patterns within those numbers. By providing frequent and varied opportunities to build and apply this understanding – such as using manipulatives, including small counting bears, pegs and many more counting activities ie. singing and organising counting – your children will develop a secure base of knowledge and vocabulary from which mastery of mathematics is built. We supplied rich opportunities for children to develop their spatial reasoning skills across all areas of mathematics including shape, space and measures. It is important that children develop positive attitudes and interests in mathematics, look for patterns and relationships, spot connections, ‘have a go’, talk to adults and peers about what they notice and not be afraid to make mistakes.

For our PE lesson, Jaqui created a fabulous obstacle course inside nursery.

Developing our children core strength , stability, balance, spacial awareness, Co ordination and agility.

Val and Karen came to nursery this Tuesday and we had the great opportunity to bake some yummy cookies. Thank you so much.
